Description

Once upon a time, Weissbier could only be brewed by ducal privilege. Hofbräuhaus enjoyed this exclusive right for nearly 200 years, thus holding a monopoly on Weissbier in Bavaria. But even without a monopoly, Münchner Weisse is a really special kind of beer. What could be more pleasurable than quenching your thirst with a deliciously yeasty Weissbier, and savouring the tingling, fizzy sensation in your mouth? With an alcoholic content of around 5,1% volume, it's pure, refreshing enjoyment.

Munich, Bayern - Germany Hofbräu München or Staatliches Hofbräuhaus im München (litt. “State court brewery” in German) is the name of one of the largest breweries in Munich, belonging to the Land of Bavaria. The brewery runs and owns the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl brewery and restaurant, the Hofbräukeller beer cellar and the Hofbräu-Festzelt Oktoberfest pavilion. It was founded on the site of the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl in 1589 by Duke William V of Bavaria and initially provided a royal service because beer was then imported from Einbeck. In 1852, it was fully integrated into Bavaria by King Maximilian II of Bavaria. In 1896, in the face of its popular success, it had to split its activities by moving the production of beer to the surrounding area of Munich (to Haidhausen, where the Hobräukeller is currently located), retaining its original walls (frequented by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Vladimir Lenin and Adolf Hitler among others), as bierpalast, the city's first tourist attraction.
