The idea took root during a sweltering summer, when the palates of several Bellerins were said to have completely dried up. A simple idea: to set up a brewery where it would be a pleasure to brew the beers essential to the survival of the local population. An open brewery where enthusiastic people could come together to work on creating divine brews! This was followed by an initial meeting of around fifteen people lured by a provocative message: ‘Do you want to set up a co-operative brewery in Bex or what? Then come and have a drink so we can talk about it” on the aptly named blue social media group “You’re from Bex if… (you drink)” Within two meetings, the die was cast! It would be a brewing CO-OPERATIVE called LA MINE, in honour of the world-famous site at the top of the road where the future brewery would be based! On the evening of Wednesday 7 September 2016, the La Mine brewing co-operative was born! Its story is still being written, and everyone is invited to add a new chapter!
