Lichtenhainer Livêche & Poivre. There are times in life when, after months of persistent nagging, you eventually give in to your mates’ whims... In this case, we’re talking about the brewing fantasies of Charlotte and Simon, who work at the brilliant L’Ours Mal Léché brewery in Strasbourg. Just like us, you too will fall victim to these creations based on real-world ingredients. Simon has a passion and a problem in life: Maggi. A popular condiment in Alsace for many decades, ‘Maggi’ is a liquid seasoning that can be used to enhance sauces, dressings and all manner of dishes. Although we say ‘Maggi’, this is actually the brand name, whilst the bottle bears the name ‘Arôme’. You could say it’s a bit like Viandox, but its magic ingredient is lovage, a herb used as a condiment in much the same way as parsley. Having been brought up on Maggi since his earliest childhood, Simon has been pestering us for a good four years now to make a lovage beer. In a moment of weakness, we carried out a trial based on what we’d used to make the Burgercalypse, namely a Lichtenhainer with pepper. And once again, we were dismayed to find that it worked very well, and we were then forced to give the green light to this hellish project...
Mogwaï Beer Company is a young, independent brewery born out of the craft beer movement, which was founded in March 2022 in Mundolsheim, in the Strasbourg region. The first batches were brewed throughout May 2022, whilst the first beers were launched in June 2022 in 44cl aluminium cans and on tap. Our aim is to produce only limited-edition brews so that we can give free rein to our desire to experiment, whether with contemporary beers (Fruit Sour, NEIPA, etc.), themed beers (such as Pizza, Tarte Flambée, sauerkraut) as well as more traditional styles (Lager, Kölsch, Doppelbock, Bitter, etc.). We have no plans for a permanent range in the immediate future because… life’s too short to brew the same thing twice!
