The Trappist beers from Westmalle Abbey are renowned the world over. The brewery's production meets the needs of the abbey. The production of beer in Westmalle is not a purely commercial activity.

Most of the revenue goes to the brewery and is invested in improving working conditions. The monks no longer brew the beer themselves, but have entrusted the brewing to outside collaborators. However, they are still responsible for the general management of the brewery themselves.

The part of the income that is not used for their own subsistence is devoted to charities, social works and people in need, according to the label "Authentic Trappist Product".
