One of the most creative brewers around is a woman, Hildegard van Ostaden. As a brewer of Urthel from Ruiselede in West Flanders, she designed the Urthel series of beers, which are brewed with patience and peace of mind entirely according to authentic Flemish brewing art at Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven in Berkel-Enschot.
After her studies at Kaho St. Lieven in Ghent, where she obtained her industrial engineering degree with a specialization in brewing, she taught for four years to young aspiring engineers and supervised numerous projects for breweries. Belgian and Dutch. Urthel beers are different from other beers.
The Seasonal Urthel won the prestigious World Beer Award in 2010.
