Valve closed until everything is connected
Before any manipulation: the cylinder valve must stay closed until the regulator is firmly attached. Trust the open / close arrows engraved on the valve.
If you opted for the CO2 regulator (+20 CHF option on your booking), here's how to connect the pressure regulator to the cylinder in nine steps. No stress: follow the order and it won't leak.
The regulator connects to the cylinder either before installing the coupler (handle fully up), or after connecting it to a keg. The order matters less than respecting the safety guidelines below.
Before any manipulation: the cylinder valve must stay closed until the regulator is firmly attached. Trust the open / close arrows engraved on the valve.
Stand it upright, away from impacts and heat sources. Avoid high temperatures (car in full sun, near a radiator, etc.).
The first five steps: connecting the regulator to the cylinder, leak-free and without crushing the seal.
Before anything else. Until the regulator is attached and sealed, the valve stays shut. Trust the open / close arrows on the valve, not your gut.
Connect the pressure hose to the regulator adapter. That's the hose that comes off the side of the coupler.
The outlet port of the cylinder is protected by a plastic cap. Take it off before screwing on.
Place the regulator on the cylinder and hand-tighten the attachment nut. At this point, it should already hold by itself.
Finish tightening with a wrench, ideally an adjustable spanner. The goal: avoid leaks. Watch out: if you over-tighten, you crush the seal and create the very leak you were trying to avoid.
The remaining four steps: open the gas and set the working pressure.
Before opening the gas: check that every hose is firmly seated at each fitting, and that none is bent. A bent hose means no pressure where you need it.
Turn the valve in the opening direction to release the gas. You'll hear a soft hiss while the pressure builds.
The regulator shows two readings: the amount of gas remaining in the cylinder (reserve) and the output pressure in bar (working).
Adjustment is done on the regulator, not on the tap — the knob on the front of the regulator is what controls the gas output pressure. Normally, we deliver it pre-set at about 2.5 bar (the reference value for serving beer), so there's nothing to touch. Just check the value and only adjust if it shifted during transport.
Three reflexes to keep in mind during and after use. They prevent silent leaks and incidents.
Every time you swap a keg during use: close the cylinder valve. If you leave it open while the coupler is disconnected, at least check the coupler's handle is fully raised.
Even if the keg isn't finished, close the gas valve at the end of each service. You can safely disconnect everything until next use.
The cylinder stays upright, away from sunlight and heat sources, out of reach of impacts. It's under pressure — treat it accordingly.
